Engaged, artistic, journalist or documentary, photography is a powerful medium that can carry a message as well as transmit values dear to its author. It is on the occasion of the 18th Salon de la Photo, which will be held from 8 to 11 November in Paris, that the theme of this cultural week is, you will understand, photography.
From the second half of the 20th, the press and photography meet. Photography becomes an indispensable element of communication and vector of information. Its (relative) accessibility to large numbers makes it a popular and informative medium: photography is used to illuminate, question or tell how the world works. The exhibition World Press Photo Exposition, which travels around the world, finally settles in Paris for a few weeks and it is the opportunity to discover the most striking press photographs of the last year which were awarded during of competition. Willy Ronis is one of the most talented photographers of the 20th century. A street photographer, he captures the moments of everyday life and embellishes them with his sense of aesthetics, nonetheless faithful to reality. These fragments of life, witnesses of a bygone era, are frozen for eternity. In 1985, he selects from his collection, the clichés deemed representative of his work, and then group them in a sort of photographic testament. In addition to the photos on display, the books are available for reading as well as a documentary film about the life of the artist.
